Day 1 Dakar. Lima to Pisco

We left Lima yesterday and drove south for 4 hours to Paracas where we have a tiny room. Awakened at 5 am showered and went to the dunes to claim our spot. Finally met up with Lindsey and the Dutchmen slept also slept in the dunes last night and were pretty ripe !
We liked up to a great spot on the dune and stayed there the entire day and got baked , the sun here is like crazy hot and just fries you, the sunscreen was left in the car for good  measure.

People stop us all the time and need a photo of us with the flags, it is unreal. Then a guy approached us near the Bivouac and said he saw the American flag and just had to come and say hi. Turns out it is Poucher and he races a motorcycle and it's his first Dakar  and did well today. He is in the same team as the guy we helped last year when he had a bad crash and was unconscious  in the middle of nowhere and it took 25 minutes for the doctors to arrive by chopper. He was in a come for days and can't recall the race at all, according to Poucher.
Then on way around the Bivouac I met Gerry who raced last year and always stopped to chat to me, now he is a media guy for Sabertooth Racing just for this race.

We were dehydrated and after coming off the dune I chugged a litre  of iced water  and then got incredible gut ache for some reason. Was a good first day overall, nobody got injured, we got fried and the Peruvians welcomed us with open arms.
